Things to Do

West Tennessee has something to offer visitors year-round. Within a short distance from the Green Acres RV Park, you can find museums, state parks, and historical landmarks that are great for families of all sizes.

Need suggestions on what you can see during your visit? Take a look at a few of our guests' favorite attractions. For more details on attractions, come and see us during our office hours.

Buford Pusser Home

The Buford Pusser Home and Museum is one of the most popular attractions for guests of Green Acres. The former Sheriff of McNairy County was a central figure in law enforcement in the area, and guests frequent his former home for a look into the life of this man. The movie "Walking Tall" tells the story of his life and tragic death.

Cherry Mansion

For a glimpse back into the Pre-Civil War era, take a tour of the historic white building that is the Cherry Mansion. During the fateful Battle of Shiloh, Cherry Mansion served as the headquarters for General Ulysses S. Grant. It was also the home where Queen and Alex Haley - grandparents of the famed author Alex Haley - worked and gave inspiration for his future novel, Queen: The Story of an American Family.

Golf In the Area

Are you looking to get in a round or two of golf while you are in the area? West Tennessee has several great courses that are ready for you. A few to consider in the surrounding areas are Pickwick Landing State Park Golf Course, Fox Chase Golf Course and Shiloh Golf Course.

Helen Keller Home

If you drive just a short one hour away, you can visit Ivy Green which was the home of Helen Keller. Take a tour of the property and see the well-pump where Helen's teacher, Anne Sullivan, first helped Helen learn about water and how to communicate. If you visit during the end of June, be sure to come by for the annual Helen Keller Festival.

Pickwick Landing State Park

Pickwick Landing is just one of Tennessee's beautiful state parks and is just a short 18 minute drive from Green Acres RV Park. It's a mecca for water recreation on the lake and river as well as the perfect spot for picnicking, birdwatching and nature hikes. Cast out a line and reel in some of the local catfish and smallmouth bass. Your family will love spending a day at Pickwick Landing State Park.

Shiloh National Military Park

In April 1862, Union and Confederate soldiers met in an epic struggle at the Battle of Shiloh. The battle ended with 23,746 casualties from both sides and was a major historical event in the American Civil War. Today, Shiloh National Military Park stands as a testament to that battle with many sites open for tours. See the actual battlefields, the Shiloh National Cemetery and Shiloh Indian Mounds.
